Obituary from The Idaho Statesman (Boise, ID) - April 9, 2004:
Longtime resident of Teton City, Lydia K. Hughes, 86, passed away on April 8, 2004 at Spring Creek assisted living center in St. Anthony. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Church Presbyterian in St. Anthony. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
Lydia was born on February 20, 1918 in Sugar City to John and Katie Hetze Klein. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Wilford.
Lydia married Lester Hughes on June 28, 1939 and resided in Teton City where they raised their two children, Lorene and Ron. Lester died suddenly in 1974.
Lydia worked at Northrup King Seed Company and retired from Rogers Brothers/American Potato in 1983 at the age of 65. After retirement, Lydia became active in senior citizen activities, particularly at the Ashton, Rexburg, and St. Anthony Senior Centers.
Lydia's lifetime hobby was her garden - her vegetables tasted especially good. She shared her garden with many family and friends and was very willing to teach others some of her "tricks of the trade" of gardening and canning. Lydia was famous for her sauerkraut and dill pickles. Also, Lydia was a longstanding active member of the St. Anthony Presbyterian Church.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Lorene (Maurie) Neilsen of Phoenix, Arizona and son, Ron (Mary) Hughes of Boise; grandchildren, Marisa, Darren, and Noelle; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Joan) Klein and Harvey (Irene) Klein; sister, Ruby Bowersox; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Alfred, Harry, and Elmer.
