Ike was the son of Ernest and Winnie Adamson.

After his high school graduation in 1947 he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska for most of his enlistment.

He married Francis Dowling in the mid 1950s. Their marriage was cut short by her untimely death in 1978.

In 1981, he married Dolores Layton.
