Hugh Edward McComas passed away Friday, May 23, 2014.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1936, in rural Fairmount to Glen and Nora Marie Orr Henley. On Dec. 30, 1956, he married Marilyn Kay McCormick. Together they were blessed with four children, Robert Glen (Sue), Randall Hugh, Richard Wayne (Kim) and Krista Kay (Hank) March.

Hugh attended Vermilion Bridge, Allerton Grade and Allerton High Schools. His senior year he attended ABL high school in Broadlands. Hugh and his father farmed and ran a custom farming circuit together.

Hugh joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1953, serving until 1961.

He was a member of the Allerton Lions Club for 26 years. He joined Broadlands Masonic Lodge 791 which combined with the Homer Masonic Lodge, and he continued as a member there. Hugh was a member of the Teamster Local of Champaign for 13 years. He spent his winters driving a semi-truck, first for Kenneth Church of Allerton, hauling livestock, and then for Thomas Logan of Fithian and last for Clifford Warner of Champaign.

He and his wife, Kay, moved to Dana, Indiana in December 1994. Hugh retired, but continued to help his son Rick farm on the Wabash in Indiana.

Hugh has 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Joann Williams; a niece and a great-niece and one aunt, Virginia Casey.
