Bette Portnoy Baker, 89, of Grants Pass died Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Norris Manor adult foster care home.Private services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. Box 446, Santa Rosa, CA 95402; or to Gilbert Creek Child Development Center, 1021 N.W. Highland Ave., Grants Pass, OR 97526.Baker was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Chicago. In 1945, in Chicago, she married Charles Portnoy, who preceded her in death. They moved to Southern California, where she worked at the Woodland Hills Country Club for many years. In 1971, she moved to Grants Pass from Southern California.She was a member of the Betty Club, the Red Hat Society and the Rogue Valley Kennel Club. She also was a member of Disabled American Veterans in the Los Angeles area. She enjoyed her dogs and horses. Throughout her life, she had many breeds of dogs, including collies, Old English sheepdogs, Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.Survivors include three daughters, Evon Webster of Grants Pass, Marcia Abbott of Piedmont, Calif., and Cindy Leathers of Oakland, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
