Edward C. Greenholt, 83, of York Township, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday at York Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy L. (Bupp) Greenholt.The service will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. The Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Greenholt was born in York. He was the son of the late Charles Edward and Lydia Ellen (Thomas) Greenholt.
He retired after 50 years as owner and operator of Eddie's Food Market, which at the time of his retirement was one of the oldest grocery stores in York. He started in the grocery business in 1927 as an employee of the A&P located at the corner of Market Street and Belvidere Avenue.He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Sunday School teacher of the "Class of Boys" and a choir member of Second Evangelical United Brethren and St. Matthew's. He was a board member of the Association of Grocers, secretary of the Pennsylvania Grocers Association and a life member of the Vigilant Fire Company.
Mr. Greenholt also is survived by a daughter, Dottie Y. Moquin of Batavia, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Charles A. Snyder Jr.
