He was born November 7, 1944 in Richlands, VA and was the son of Dorothy Mae Justice Hall Perkins of Swords Creek, VA and the late James Jewell. Jerry retired from owning and operating the Richlands Pallet Factory in Doran, VA. He worked several jobs in his life, including owning coal mines, drove trucks and paned for gold for Windfall Gold Mining in Alaska. He also worked on the Superconducting Super Collider Atom splitting project in Texas. Jerry loved to read and travel, but he always came home where he lived in Swords Creek as a lifelong resident. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Jerri Eugena Jewell; stepfathers, Gabriel Hall and Baxter Perkins; and stepbrothers, Alvie Perkins, Ferrell Perkins and Lee Perkins.

Funeral services for Jerry Lee Jewell will be conducted Monday, February 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dennis White officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be: Brad Harris, Brett Taylor, Ryan Harris, Brad Meadows, Earl Hall, James Hall, J. D.
