Kenny was born on September 19, 1939 in Martins Ferry to Lloyd and Frances (Lucas) Thompson. As a young boy, he moved to Mansfield where he graduated from Mansfield Senior High School, class of 1957. Just one day following his 18th birthday he married Joan (Miller) Thompson on September 20, 1957. Soon after, Kenny joined the Air Force holding rank of Senior Airman. After his discharge from the Air Force, he continued his service by joining the Air National Guard.
Kenny worked at General Motors as a Tool Maker, retiring after 43 years. The king of one-liners, Kenny was blessed with a quick wit, and great sense of humor. At work he was also known as "The Don Rickles of General Motors".
A man of many talents, Kenny had his hand in just about everything. Gifted with a creative side, he enjoyed woodworking, and photography, where he won awards for his pictures. Involved in sports, he played golf and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. In warmer months Kenny gathered his family and together they spent time at Charles Mill Lake on the family houseboat.
Kenny was a member of the Butler Village Council for 8 years, the Masonic Lodge #152 Venus Chapter, the Redneck Yacht Club-Mifflin, was former Governor of the Lexington Moose Lodge #2511, Perrysville VFW Post #8586, and was a life member of the Bellville AMVETS Post #43.
He was also a member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Mansfield.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Joan Thompson of Butler; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kerry Thompson of Mansfield, and Todd and Susan Thompson of Bellville; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndi and Harry Collins of Galion; Five grandchildren; Four great grandchildren; and two more eagerly anticipated; and a special nephew, David Kinney.
Along with his parents, Kenny was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Jean Thompson.
The Thompson Family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, 2009 from 4-8p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11a.m. with The Rev. Ken Kinley officiating. Burial with Military Honors performed by American Legion Post #535 will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions to Hospice of North Central Ohio or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network may be made at the funeral home.
