From the Cradle: May 29, 1955,… To the Grave: December 18, 2009,… Mr. Larry James Rankin, Sr., 54, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 18, 2009, at his home with family by his side. He was born on May 29, 1955, in Galveston, Texas, to the late Lewis and Henrietta Vorsburgh Rankin. He grew up in the community of Dickinson and was a 1973 graduate of Dickinson High School. Larry was a member of Bible Way Fellowship Baptist Church in Houston. He was employed at the Clear Lake Celanese Chemical Plant for thirty-five years.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Henrietta Vorsburgh Rankin; his daughter Danielle L. Rankin; and a sister Pam Rankin Hagler.
Left with cherished memories is his devoted wife Sheila Hagler Rankin; his children Larry J. Rankin Jr. (Christine), Pastor Chad E. Rankin (April), Derrick A. Rankin (Amy), Marcus Morgan (Cindy), Joshua McNeal and Jasmin Rankin. His God-children Paige Long and Taylor Peterson. His siblings Earnest (Joyce) Rankin, Cynthia (Terry) Jackson, Barbara "Bobbie" Barnett, Laura (Tim) McKensie, Edric Rankin and Samantha Wilson; eleven grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Bible Way Fellowship Baptist Church, 10120 Hartsook Rd. Houston, Texas, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. and a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Dr. Ivory L. Varner, Senior Pastor and the Rev. Chad Rankin, Assistant Pastor, eulogist. Burial will follow services at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.
