He was the son of the late Lessie H. and Florine Smalling Cannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. K. Charles Cannon.

A World War II Marine Corp veteran, Mr. Cannon made landings with the 4th Marine Division on Saipan, Tinian, Kwajalein and Iwo Jima.

The Requiem Mass for Mr. Cannon was on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 2:00 P.M., in the Chapel of St. John's Episcopal Church.

Interment followed in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
