DUNN - Mrs. Peggy Rouse Lawrence, 83, of Dunn, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at her residence. She was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Cumberland County to the late Joseph and Margaret Budd Rouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Lawrence. Mrs. Lawrence was a career advisor for the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business. She came to Campbell in 1959 at the invitation of then-president Dr. Leslie Campbell to help with the college's transition into a university. Before becoming a career adviser for the School of Business, she advised all Campbell students concerning career opportunities. She finished 51 years of service to the university in the Department of Financial Planning and Accounting and the Trust and Wealth Management programs. More than 2,000 graduates over 41 years have been influenced by her kindness and advice. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dunn, where she served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for the Elizabeth Green class. She also was a member of Dunn Woman's Club.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at First Baptist Church by Dr. Len Keever. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

She is survived by a son, Hylton Lawrence and wife Phyllis of Dunn; three sisters, Lib Swanson, Mae Rouse and Cama Freeman and husband Ray, all of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Lawrence and David Parker Lawrence; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Dunn, 309 West Broad St., Dunn, NC 28334; or to Hospice of Harnett County, 111 N. Ellis Ave., Dunn, NC 28334.
