Velma Grace Pledger Sharp, age 79, of Rome, went peacefully to live with Jesus on Sunday, February 8, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Alfred Roland Sharp; her parents, John Clifford Pledger and Lorene Sanford Pledger; by a daughter, Charlotte Virginia Sharp; by a brother, Stanley Fain Edwards; by two step-brothers, Fain and Wendel Edwards; by two step-sisters, Pat Welchel and Jewel Duke; and several nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind four children, Sheron (Tony) Jennings of Cloudland, Dawn (Roger) Hall of Lawrenceville, Alred C. (Freddy) Sharp, and Mark (Mandy) Sharp of Rome. Seven grandchildren, Shane Barnes and Jeremy (Linda) Barnes of Carrollton, Michelle (Devin) Stancliff of Brazelton, Jason Michael Fields and Charlotte Hall of Lawrenceville, Corbin and Cameron Sharp of Rome; four great- grandchildren, Savannah and Matthew Barnes of Carrollton, Peyton and Greyson Stancliff of Brazelton. She is also survived by three sisters, Maline (William) Sunrich, Elsie Mueller, and Cinda (Mike) Miller and one step-sister, Sue Early; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sharp was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith, devoted military wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She faithfully followed her soldier where ever she possibly could and kept the home and family together in his absence during war time. She retired from ITT Lester Industries where she worked for twenty years after serving 22 years as a military wife. She was a member and treasurer of New Zion Baptist Church and a faithful, loving and giving friend to many. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and lovingly welcomed into the gates of heaven and the arms of her loving God.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday February 12, 2015 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Buddy Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen and are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Leslie Pearce, Tony Bolick, Ron Carter, James Gilmore, Ricky Carter, and Doug Sharp.

Honorary Pallbearers include, Richard Bolick, Carl Willis Sharp, William Ramsey, Jackie Sharp, and Roger Loveless.
