Bradley James Powell, 46, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, May 28, 2004, at his residence following a brief illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil of Church of the Nativity, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Powell was born Feb. 12, 1958, in Sioux City. He married Mary E. Widner on Jan. 14, 2000, in Elk Point, S.D.

He was a mechanic with Budget Motors for several years. He was a mechanic with Tru Green Chem Lawn at the time of his death.

He raced stock car 26 for many years at Interstate Speedway. He won the Mid-Season Hobby Stock Championship at Interstate in 1991. He was a devoted NASCAR fan. His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon number 24. He was a HO Train hobbyist and also enjoyed woodworking. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his father, James "Butch" Powell and his wife, Pauline of Sioux City; two daughters, Stephanie Crawmer of Des Moines and Brandie Powell of Le Mars, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Traci and her husband, Jonathon Comes, Crystal and her husband, Ismael Gomez and Ambier Arana, all of Sioux City; a stepson, Jason Sitzman of Sioux City; four sisters, Jeanette and her husband, Jayson Zortman, Natalie Powell, Cindy Wilson and Angela and her husband, Doug McCauley, all of Sioux City; two stepsisters, Holly McCullough of Sioux City and Marlene Seaton of Denver, Colo.; a brother and his wife, Danny and Melissa Powell of Sioux City; four stepbrothers, Lonnie Orr, Cletus Orr and Terry Orr, all of Sioux City and Rickie Orr of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother; paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents; and a granddaughter, Valerie Lynn Eslinger.

Pallbearers will be Jim Loker, Terry Baker, Rich Rensberger, John Eslinger, Keith Sands and Jonathon Comes.
