CHARLOTTE -- Malie Oncie Burgess, Jr., 82, of Charlotte, NC, passed away January 26, 2015, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. He was born in Charlotte, NC on April 14, 1932 to the late M.O. Burgess, Sr. and Bertie Cochran Burgess. Malie was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan Nurse Burgess.
Malie attended Berryhill School and later served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a letter carrier for the USPS and was a member of Grace Bible Church in Charlotte.
He enjoyed gardening, gold panning, rock hunting, the mountains, storytelling and playing the mandolin. He embraced life, relationships and friendships with humility, gratitude, generosity and a kind heart. He loved his family.
Malie is survived by his daughters; Cheryl Burgess and Pam Porter; and his son, Alan Burgess.
A memorial service will be held on January 31, 2015 at 12:30pm at Grace Bible Church, 8820 Idlewild Road, Charlotte, NC. A visitation for family and friends will take place before the service at 11:00 am. The interment will be at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC, following the service.
