Lewis Maulden, Died in Philadelphia Mississippi on the 1st of May, 53rd year of age, native of Union District of South Carolina for 22 years, member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, leaves a wife and four kids.

The M E Church was the first development of Methodism.

The Methodist Church South, this branch was opposed to slavery, Philadelphia, Neshoba Mississippi has a ministry from 1823. The Church has been rebuilt and is renamed the First United Methodist Church. The original burial ground is not known but is probably located on or near the now Church property.

Once lived on Brushy Creek of the Saluda River in South Carolina.

Was in the War of 1812.

In 1785 SC created "six" subordinate counties within the over-reaching Ninety-Six District. These counties are Abbeville, Edgefield, Laurens, Newberry, Spartanburg, and Union.

Union county South Carolina was created in 1798 from 96th District, South Carolina.
