Silas M. Rogers, for many years a citizen of DeKalb and Kendall Counties, IL, died at his home in Piper City, Ford County, IL, December 5, 1910, aged 71 years, four months and eight days. Mr. Rogers was, for many years, a successful farmer in Ford County, but retired from farming in 1899, and since then, up to the time of his death, occupied a beautiful home in Piper City. He was born July 26, 1829, at Preston, Chenango County, NY. He was united in marriage with Miss Hannah Elvira Nayes [sic], December 22, 1853, at New Castle Valley, Tioga County, NY. To this union were born five children, one son dying in childhood. The survivors are Charles L., Iantha, MO; Joseph M., Kankakee, IL; Owen D., Watseka, IL; and Mrs. Ida A. Quick, who lives on a farm near Piper City. The deceased leaves his wife, four children, five grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers, to mourn his loss. Mr. Rogers came west in 1854, settling near Somonauk, where he lived ten years. Subsequently he moved near Plano, where he resided until he moved to Ford County. Silas Rogers was a brother to the late Rogers Brothers, Israel, Allen, and David K., of Sandwich. His brothers, Stephen V., of Sandwich, Davis, of Tampico, IL, and Donald of Piper City, IL, survive him. For many years the deceased was an exemplary member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His life and character is the highest compliment that can be paid to his memory. Stephen and Louis [sic] Rogers attended the funeral services.
