WINFIELD | Mrs. Ina Murl Smith Moore, age 105, of Winfield, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin. Mrs. Moore was born on April 23, 1909 in Jefferson Co. (Birmingham) a daughter of Sidney Armstrong Smith and Carrie Lee Aderholt. She grew up in Anniston; graduated from Montevallo University in 1931 with a BM degree in Music; she then moved to Winfield in 1931 to teach piano and speech where she married William Moore who was the Principal of Winfield High School in 1932; in 1940 she began teaching public school music in the elementary school as well as producing children's plays; in addition she conducted the children's flutophone band. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church where she taught the Primary Department and Adult Bible Studies for years and in the church choir; member of Ladies Missionary Society, Wesleyan Guild Conference, Delta Kappa Gamma, Local Teachers Association, N.E.A., A.E.A. and Retired Teachers Association and Studios Club for over 50 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Sidney Smith, Jr. and Harold Smith.
She is survived by one son, William T. Moore and his wife, Freddie Mae of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Anna Moore Richards of Morgan Hill, Calif.; three grandchildren, Karla Ann Williams, Karen Richards and Lisa Moser; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home. Earl Freeman will officiate. Burial to follow in Winfield City Cemetery with Miles Funeral Home of Winfield directing. Visitation will be Thursday from 12 noon – 2 p.m.
