William L. Hemler, Sr., age 83, of Gettysburg, PA died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at his home. Born November 15, 1931 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late John B. & Virginia (Ramer) Hemler, Sr.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Sterner Hemler, who died in 2001.
Bill was a life member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg. He attended Delone Catholic High School, served eight years with the Pennsylvania National Guard and had been employed by The Times and News Publishing Co. in Gettysburg for thirty one years.
His memberships included; Biglerville American Legion, Catholic War Veterans, Hanover Republican Club, 40 & 8, the former Gettysburg Elks Club and he was a life member of the Gettysburg Fire Co.
Bill is survived by his daughter; Diane M. Hewitt of Gettysburg, his four son's; William L. Hemler, Jr. of Gettysburg, David A. Hemler of Harrisburg, PA, Stephen M. Hemler of Gettysburg and Paul D. Hemler of Aspers, PA, eight grandchildren, two great granddaughters, a sister, Rose Heller of Gettysburg, three brothers; Thomas Hemler of York, PA, Daniel Hemler of McKnightstown, PA and John B. Hemler, Jr. of Gettysburg, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 45 West High St. Gettysburg, PA with Fr. John Bateman and Fr. Lawrence Sherdel, officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 6-8 PM at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg.
