On Wednesday, February 4, 2015, God saw that Bettie Wicker Young was getting weary and called her from labor to reward. Bettie passed away in Nashville, TN, with her daughter, Viola Jones at her side.
Born August 1, 1927, Bettie was the daughter of the late Robert Lindsey Wicker and Dilcy Bryant Williams Wicker of St. Francisville, LA. Bettie was married to the late James (Bay) Young Sr., and to this union seven children were born. Bettie was a faithful member of the New St Luke Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and mother until her health began to fail.
Bettie Wicker Young was preceded in death by her husband, James Young Sr., a son, James Young Jr. (Flea), two daughters, Jacquelyn Young and Mary Jacobs, one grandchild Lillian Woodall, three brothers, Albert, Joe and Edward Wicker, two sisters, Mary Alice Mebane and Geraldine Rogers.
Bettie leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Viola Jones, three sons, Harry (Sheila), Charlie (Bobbie) and Robert (Gail) Young, one brother, Harry Wicker, one goddaughter, Bettie Mebane, ten grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at, at the New St Luke Baptist Church, 7335 Solitude Road, St. Francisville, LA 70775.
