Sarah Cathryn "Cathy" Gunter, age 61, of Russellville, TN and formerly of Oak Ridge, died Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Morristown Hamblen Health Care System.

She was born February 15, 1953 in Oak Ridge, the daughter of Richard Edward Brockwell and Sylvia White Brockwell. Cathy was born and raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, attending schools at Pine Valley Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and a Class of 1971 Oak Ridge High School graduate. She was a gifted student and a favorite of her classmates. She was beautiful, witty, incredibly funny, outgoing, and was a natural born leader. She was the "take control and lead" buddy you always wanted around. She also had a really cool 1969 Camaro with dark metallic brown and gold paint, tan leather interior and bucket seats, which was not only beautiful, but great to ride in. Friday night ORHS football games and slumber parties at her house was an event her buddies Lucretia, Lisa, and Vickie, always looked forward to all week. Cathy attended undergraduate classes at the University of Tennessee in 1972 thru 1973. She loved hiking, music, sewing, and any type of animal. In earlier years, Cathy had worked at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter in Oak Ridge.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Richard Brockwell.

In addition to her mother, Sylvia Brockwell of Lenoir City, she is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ben Gunter (ORHS Class of 1970 Graduate); son, Jess Gunter, both of Russellville, TN; brother, Charles "Buster" Brockwell and his wife Irene of Lexington, North Carolina; two sisters: Carolyn Newberg and her husband, Archie, of Mebane, N.C., and Rebecca Buck and her husband, William, of Cumming, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Courtney Paige Rosenbaum and River Anderson Shelton.

In keeping with her wishes, Cathy was cremated. A graveside service at Oak Ridge Memorial Park is planned for a later date. Weatherford Mortuary of Oak Ridge, TN was in charge of arrangements.
