Chloe E. Badger, daughter of Sherman Kellogg and Rebecca Eaton, was born Nov. 21, 1822 in Hubbardton, Rutland Co., Vermont and died Monday afternoon, Feb. 1, 1897 after an illness of a little more than a week. Her daughter Clara died a week before of blooding poisoning, after an illness of six years and though Mrs. Badger cared for her almost hourly during that time, it was only within the last two days of her daughters death that she was inoculated. Mrs . Badger was 74 years old. Her husband, W.P. Badger, who founded the town of Muscotah 40 years ago, died in November of 1894. Mrs. Badge was the daughter of a Congregational preacher. Her marriage to W.P. Badger occurred in Montpelier, Vt., Dec. 22, 1841, and she came to Muscotah in 1857. She as the mother of four children; none of them are now alive. Fred W. Badger, now of Kansas City, was her adopted son and son of her brother, Sherman Kellogg. Three of her sisters are alive, Mrs. Addie Coomes, wife of Ol Coomes, the novelist, and Mrs. Harriet Johnson, both now living in Iowa, and Mrs. Sarah Winchell of Washington, D.C. Mrs. Badger was the sister of Sherman Kellogg of Stanley, Kansas, and of ex-Senator, Wm Pitt Kellogg of Louisiana, now of Washington, D.C. She joined the Congregational church when she was very young and was an active member most of her adult life.
