Calvin Junior Gibson, 86, of Buchanan, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015, surrounded by family at his home. He was born on July 2, 1928. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Valeria; his parents, Cleveland and Josephine Gibson; and his sister, Marie Sloan.

Calvin retired from the Roanoke Cement Company after 33 years of employment during which time he also drove a school bus for Botetourt County and farmed to provide for his family. After retirement, he continued to raise cattle, make hay and share produce from his abundant garden with family and neighbors.

He was a devoted family man and is survived by his four children, sons, Robert Gibson (Marlene), Ronnie Gibson (Lynne), and Roger Gibson (Cindy); his daughter, Sherry Fridley (Buddy); his grandchildren, Robbie Gibson (Tracy), Kevin Gibson (Kristin), Sara Floyd, Amy Shirey (Bill), Lauren Brown (Barry), and Jill Austin (Eric); his great-grandchildren, Crystal Akers (Billy), Calvin Gibson, Greg and Madison Floyd, Caleb Meador, Dillon Shirey, Noah Austin, and Caroline and Kelsey Lynch; and his great-great-grandchildren, Tanner Gibson and Isaiah and Eden Akers.

Calvin is also survived by his brother, Randolph Gibson; and sisters, Susie Sloan, Kathleen Wood, Barbara (Jerry) Mundy, and Wanda Smith; as well as nieces; nephews; his many special "Cedar Lane, Church Road, and Spreading Springs" neighbors and Willie Barnard.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015, in Springwood Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106, Roanoke, Virginia 24018; or to a charity of one's choice.
