He Graduated from Bristow High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served from 1964 to 1966. On March 25, 1966 Douglas A. Nichols and Sandra Sue Rosson were united in marriage. He received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern State University.
Doug had an extensive career in law enforcement working for the Oklahoma State Highway Patrol for twenty two years from 1967 to 1988 then served as Creek County Sheriff from 1989 to 1995 and finally worked as an investigator for the Creek County District Attorney’s office. He was a member of the Oklahoma retired Troopers association, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Peace Officer Association and the FBI National Academy Alumni.
He enjoyed traveling to Colorado hunting and relaxing. He was well respected and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years; son; three brothers; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Phillip D. Nichols.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00AM, Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Bristow Church of God. Officiating will be Oklahoma Highway Patrol Chaplain Sam Garner and Judge Mark Ihrig. Interment will follow at the Bristow City Cemetery.
