PARIS - Douglas Fairbanks Castle, 77, Cypress Street, former Mayor of the City of Paris for 29 years, retired commercial representative for South Central Bell Telephone, U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II, husband of Patricia Evans Castle, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born April 19, 1927 in Thealka, Ky, son of the late Craig and George Ann Puckett Castle and was a graduate of Paintsville High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Methodist Men. Doug was a former member of the Paris City School Board of Education, former president of JayCees, Kiwanis Club, Paris High School Band Boosters, had served as Finance Commissioner for the City of Paris, member of American Legion Post #30, Telephone Pioneers of America, former chairman and treasurer of the Blue Grass Area Development District, former treasurer of the Ky League of Cities, and was an original member of the Paris Pike Development Committee.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by three sons, Douglas Lee (Damie) Castle, Winchester, Kem Evans Castle (Donna Schultz), Paris, Max Christian Castle, Paris; a granddaughter, Kristal Castle, Winchester; and a sister, Lillie Fitch, Springfield, OH. Funeral services will be 11 am Mon. March 14 at the First United Methodist Church by Rev. Chris Patterson with interment in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Don Kiser, Bob Casher, Ron Vanover, Dickie Brunner, Craig MacNally, Everett Garrison, Earl Clough, and Jas Sekhon. Honorary bearers will be Jim Harrill, Leonard Wilson, Bob Baker, Joe McCormack, Charles Johnston, Bill Lucky and Donnie Foley. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Sun. at the church. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church. Hinton-Turner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
