Jane Meeks, Age 82, of Valparaiso Indiana, passed away on February 9, 2015 at home after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Jane was born on January 30, 1933 in Besco (Washington County), Pennsylvania, the daughter of Fred Rada and Julia (Hegedus) Karanovich, both of whom preceded her in death.

On July 30, 1965 she married the love of her life, Paul Richard “Rich” Meeks, in Gary, Indiana.

Jane graduated from high school in Pennsylvania in 1951 where she was active in basketball. She moved to Gary, Indiana at age 18. Jane worked for the Law Offices of Spangler, Jennings & Dougherty as a Legal Secretary for over thirty five years. She also worked for Maytag in Iowa early in her career. Jane was a long-time parishioner of Seven Dolors Our Lady of Sorrows Shrine in South Haven.

Jane is survived by two children: son Jim (Donna) Meeks of Chesterton, Indiana; and daughter Janis Walker of Valparaiso. She is survived by two grandchildren, Gambit (Heather) Meeks of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Mandi Baekey of Marietta, Georgia; and one great- granddaughter Genevieve Meeks, Minnetonka, Minnesota. Jane is also survived by brothers, Fred Karanovich of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Dan Karanovich of Marietta, Georgia; and sister Mary Ellen Trbovich of Clarksville, Pennsylvania.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul (Richard) Meeks on July 18, 2010. She was also preceded in death by siblings: Mildred Grigonis in 1956, Steve Karanovich in 2008, and Donna Hill in 2010.

Jane was also preceded by her many beloved dogs including Misty, Legion and Rusty.

She loved her family, animals, reading Steven King novels, Elvis, and was a movie buff. She was unbeatable in Trivial Pursuit Silver Screen edition.

A Funeral Service celebrating Jane's life and legacy will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 5:00 p.m at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, Indiana with Reverend Craig Forwalter officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Cremation will follow at Heritage Crematory, Portage, IN. A Private Interment of Cremains was held on Saturday February 14, 2015 at Graceland Cemetery Chapel of Peace in Valparaiso, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the VNA Horton Hospice Center, Porter County
