Lois J. Zimmerman, 81, of Fairbury, passed away at 8:20 pm, Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Advocate Bromenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.

Her Funeral will be at 10:30 am, Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Fairbury; with Pastor Floyd Blackard officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00pm, Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to SELCAS, Fairview Haven Retirement Community, or United Methodist Women of Fairbury.

Lois was born October 18, 1933, in El Paso the daughter of Lester and Aletha (Campbell) Smith. They preceded her in death. She married John J. Zimmerman on August 3, 1952, in El Paso. He passed away on April 21, 2012.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Zimmerman of Fairbury and Keith (Linda) Zimmerman of Gridley; three daughters, Barb Zimmerman, Beth (John) Marshall both of Fairbury, and Donna (Tim) Schroeder of Edwardsville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren;

Lois was a 1951 graduate of El Paso High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairbury where she was President of the UMW and taught Sunday school for many years.

Lois loved writing. She oftentimes would write about family events as well as poetry for family at Christmas. She also wrote several children’s books including Marc Marcus and Purple Pig .

She was a wonderful children’s storyteller and read for many events in the Fairbury area. Lois was a Librarian for Isaac Walton and Westview Elementary Schools as well as Dominy Memorial Library all in Fairbury. She also worked in retail for Hornsby’s Variety Store in El Paso and Zimmerman True Value in Fairbury.
