Gloria Grace Hopkins, residing in Austin Texas, passed in her sleep on 1/28/2014. She was born in Dixon Illinois, was the daughter of Edward and Ruth Edna (Donahue) Montgomery and had one older brother James Montgomery.

Gloria grew up on her father's farm and had fond memories of her dad's pool hall where he would play the fiddle. After graduating from Dixon high school in 1960 she accepted a job at International Milling Co, in Minneapolis. Shortly after accepting her new job she dated Robert Hopkins. Robert was an Airmen First Class stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan. After dating and being engaged for two years, Robert and Gloria were married at the Kincheloe Air Force Base chapel and began a wonderful marriage lasting over 50 years.

After being married Robert and Gloria were reassigned to Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa Japan. After their two years in Okinawa they moved to MacDill Air Force base Florida where they started their family with their daughter Desiree an son James. It wasn't long before Gloria and Robert missed being stationed overseas. They enjoyed the adventure and experience of living in a foreign country so they decided to pursue being stationed at Air Force Bases in Europe.

They spent the next nine years stationed in Europe. They had the opportunity to be stationed the Royal Air Force base Lakenheath in the United Kingdom and Ramstein Air Force Base Germany. During the nine years they loved to travel and sightsee all the historical places in Europe. One of their most memorable traveling adventures was when Gloria's mother Ruth and her two friends Marilyn and Vi visited when they were stationed in Germany. They rented a green van and went on a two week road trip throughout Europe.

When Robert was reaching the retirement point of his Air Force career, they decided to move to Austin Texas in 1981. When they moved into their new home Gloria quickly made new friends Adriana, Mary, Karen Lynn, David and Christy. With her new home, she had the opportunity to fully engage in her favorite activity of rescuing cats and dogs. She provided a home and love to care for many cats and dogs over the years.

Gloria is survived her daughter and son and ten pets. All of the members of her family already miss her dearly, and choose to remember the better times in Gloria's life where there was much joy and humor. Gloria was wonderful Mom and a good friend to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed, but remembered as a blessing.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Baldwin officiating.
