Alverta K. Herr, 97, formerly of Moonshine Road, Jonestown passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 in the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra.

Born August 19, 1917 in North Annville Township, she was a daughter of the late Harrison S. and Sarah Ellen (Nye) Blauch.

She was the widow of Sterling E. “Silver” Herr who died in 2005 and was also preceded in death by son Richard Herr, grandson Jason Herr, daughters-in-law Minnie Herr and Georgia Herr, and siblings Nora Stutzman, Ruth Landis, Lloyd Blauch and Lester Blauch.

Retired from the former Bogene Sewing Factory, Lebanon, she was the oldest member of St. John’s Evangelical Congregational Church, Steelstown, and a Pioneer Girl Leader at Jonestown Bible Church. She enjoyed gardening, going to the family cabin in Blackwell, cooking, baking, her many dogs over the years, and most importantly she loved her family.

Surviving are her children Carl, husband of Freda Herr of Ono, William, husband of Sheila Herr of Annville, Larry Herr of Jonestown, Clyde “Butch,” husband of Melva Herr of Jonestown, and Patricia, wife of Frank Custer of Jonestown; daughter-in-law Loretta Herr of Jonestown; sister Mary Becker of Annville; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at her church, 683 Steelstown Road, Steelstown with interment in the adjoining St. John’s Evangelical Congregational Church Cemetery. Viewings 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra and 1:00 – 2:00 PM Wednesday at the church.

The family would like to thank the staff in Tranquil Terrace at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home for the wonderful care their mother received during her stay at the home.
