SEPTEMBER 2, 1942 – FEBRUARY 23, 2011
James E. Melancon. Jim passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home on February 23, 2011, at the age of 68. He was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, steeped in a Cajun heritage. He spent his entire work life in the oil industry, beginning at Chevron Oil Company right out of USL (now ULL) in Lafayette. Through the years he worked at several different companies, making many long-lasting friendships along the way. At his final career stop with CGGVeritas, nothing pleased him more than sharing photos of his wife, daughters and grandchildren with his many colleagues and associates.
He is survived by Lillian (Clay), his wife of 43 years; daughter Jenny and husband Jason Smith and their children Charlotte and Brooke; and daughter Christie and husband Scotty Johnson and their children Lucas and Caroline. He is also survived by his brother Woodley and wife Ruby, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Marie (Arabie) Melancon, and by his brother J. C. and wife Betty.
Jim was happiest when he was watching his grandchildren play, listening to his favorite music, grilling steaks for the family, attending marching band competitions and finding the perfect parking space.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday March 1, 2011 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel.
If you desire, the family suggests donations in Jim's memory be made to Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America , American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice in lieu of the usual remembrances.
