Louisa "Lou" was born the second child of eight born to John Thomas and Margaret Ann Dunham Medlin. Her parents were farmers on their property in Denton County, Texas.

Lou married Clark Mitchem "Bud" Pickett on 28 May 1905 in Denton County. In the 1910 Federal Census it records their home in Hagansport, Franklin, Texas, where her husband was employed in saw milling. By this time they had two children, a son, George Royden, and a daughter, Lillion, who sadly died little more than one month old.

No record was found of their residence in 1920, but the 1930 Census shows that they had moved back to Denton County and were living on a farm they owned. On the WWII registration, 1942, Bud showed their residence in Sanger, Denton, Texas.

Lou died just two months prior to her beloved husband in 1966.
