Mr. Burris was born on March 1, 1950 in McComb to Benjamin Fred Burris and Geneva Barron Burris.
He was a South Pike High School graduate where he was a two time All Conference Lineman for the football team. He was an Eagle Scout Troop 135 in Magnolia and a past Scoutmaster. He was a Mississippi State graduate with a degree in forestry. He worked for Hercules and Scott Plywood for several years. He also owned and operated McComb Glass for over 37 years. He was a very loyal employer and friend to many. Mr. Burris was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. His passion was surely quail hunting in which he developed many friendships across the nation. He provided bird dogs for celebrity quail hunts in Albany, GA. He also shot skeet competitively placing in doubles at the World Skeet Shoot in San Antonio, TX. Mr. Burris was past State Chairman of Quail Unlimited, Past Zone 7 Chairman for the National Skeet Shooting Association, Past Ducks Unlimited President and Past Board Member for First Bank.
Mr. Burris was preceded in death by his father Benjamin Fred Burris.
Survivors include his wife Renee Simms Burris of Smithdale; his mother Geneva Burris of Magnolia; his son Milt Burris and his wife Laura of Smithdale; twin brother Wilton Burris of Magnolia; Step-son Randy Craft and his wife Katie of Jayess; Step-daughter Brittany Rimes of Smithdale; one nephew Mr. and Mrs. Christian Burris of Atlanta, GA; one granddaughter Abby Burris; three step grandchildren Jason Rimes, Emory Craft and Kyndal Craft.
Visitation will be Monday evening at Jones Funeral Home from 5 until 8 PM and continues Tuesday from 9 until services in the Chapel starting at 10AM. Burial will follow at the Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Smithdale. Dr. Jimmy Porter will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jay King, Dan Smith, Cleet McHenry, Mark Carter, Ron Ard, Tom Assaf, Bucky Jones and Lamar Burrow.
