115 Squadron’s Vickers Wellington IA (#N2987) bomber aircraft, with an aircrew of seven, took off from RAF Marham. N2987 flew into some turbulence, resulting in its crashing near Wyton, Cambridgeshire. Four airmen lost their lives as a result of the accident; the other three members of the crew were injured.
The airmen who perished because of this crash were-

RAF Flying Officer Basil Verney FANSHAWE,
RAF Aircraftman 1st Class Desmond Hugh LYNCH and
RAF Aircraftman 2nd Class George Thomas ROSE.
NOTE: earlier, on 7 May 1940, RAF Aircraftman 1st Class Frederick Gordon SETTLE lost his life when he was accidentally struck with a revolving airscrew during the start-up of N2987.
