Margaret H. "Peggy" Hoff, nee Hayden, 69, of Belleville, Ill., born July 23, 1945, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015.Peggy graduated in 1959 from St. Phillip's Grade School and in 1963 from St. Teresa Academy, East St. Louis, Ill. She worked for four years at National Auto Supply in East St. Louis, Ill. On Jan. 2, 2008, Peggy retired from the United States Postal Service in Belleville, Ill., after more than 30 years of employment. She was the first woman mail carrier in Belleville. She was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 155, the first woman shop-steward, and vice president the local.Peggy was a member of the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council, serving several years as the Sergeant-at-Arms, and in 1992, was Labor Woman of the Year.She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert C. Hoff; her parents, Henry H. "Mike" and Mary E., nee Sullivan, Hayden; three brothers, Henry Harley Hayden, William M. Hayden, and James E. Hayden; three sisters, Genevieve "Genny" Wierciak, Mary "Jo" McGeehan, and Dorothy "Dottie" Barrett; three brothers-in-law, John "Buck" Wierciak, William R. McGeehan, and John E. Barrett; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Hayden, Betty Robinson, and Doris Johnson.Surviving are one son, Stephen M. (Janet) Hayden of Belleville, Ill.; two step-sons, Robert C. (Teri) Hoff of Burkeville, Ill., and Curt "Chrissy" Hoff of Waterloo, Ill.; two step-daughters, Jeanne (Jeff) Swaney of St. Louis, Mo., and Janine (Aaron) Brown of Waterloo, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Tammy) Hayden of Collinsville, Ill., and Daniel (Sandy) Hayden of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Roger (Irene) Hoff; three sisters-in-law, Audrey (Fred) Diener, Linda (Jerry) Basnett, and Debbie Hayden; one life-long friend, Gloria Struck of Galesburg, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.
