Born to Margaret Lucille Hartshorn and Alfred Lawrence Johnson. He was born in California but Kanab was always home to him. He worked various jobs after graduating from high school until he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served until 1954. He married Joyce Adams Dec 25, 1955 in Fredonia, AZ. They moved to Baldwin Park, CA where he worked and learned the plumbing trade. In 1993 after he retired they moved back to the red hills of Kanab. He loved hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joyce, sister Mary Ann Swapp, brother Russell McAllister and many nieces and nephews. His parents, three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Graveside services held in Kanab on Feb 7, 2015. Arrangements made with Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab.
