Pfc. Benjamin T. Zieske of Concord, California figured joining the Army was his ticket to college as well as a chance to get out on his own for the first time. Hr grauated from Olympic High School student and joined in March 2005. His older brother, Shawn, also joined the military and graduated from the Navy's boot camp. Shawn is currently doing advanced computer technology training and is not expected to be sent to Iraq. He is survived by his mother, Laurie, of Concord, and his father, Robert. His awards and decorations included the Expert Weapons Qualification Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was 20.
