Ed Tyler was a WW1 veteran and received the purple heart during his service in the U.S.Army. He passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Indianapolis. He is buried in Indianapolis in Washington Park East Cemetery.

He was married to Mary Edith Demaree and they had five daughters, Edna Louise Whittaker of Indianapolis, Virginia Marie Sierp of Madison, Indiana, Opal May Glover Pulis of Indianapolis, Marjorie Alice Hearn Hauser of Trafalgar, Indiana and Martha Jean Kvale of Dennison Texas.

Ed was born on the Hutton farm south of Butlerviller, Indiana.
