WEST – James Arthur Adair of West, a retired barber died Monday at a local hospital. He was 78.
Graveside services will be today at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, the Rev. Herman Merritt officiating.
Mr. Adair was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Hill County. He grew up in Hill and McLennan counties. He married Earlene Lewis on Nov. 16, 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After he served for two years, he moved to Fort Worth before moving to West.
Mr. Adair started as a barber in West in 1947 and opened a clothing store in 1961. He continued barbering until August 1993 and was still operating the clothing store at the time of his death. Mr. Adair was a member of the Church on the Rock in Waco and a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 4819 and the Disabled American Veterans group.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis Adair and Mike Adair; two brothers, Elmer Adair and Howard Adair; a sister, Gladys Bailey and a grandson.
