Earl Leonard Kennedy, 90 of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 at Windsor Place.

He was born July 12, 1924 to Earl L. Sr. and Velma June (Smart) Kennedy in Fort Scott, Kansas.

He moved to Independence, Kansas with his parents in 1938. After graduation in May 1943, he entered the service. Serving with U.S. Navy, he attended the Iowa State University after which he was assigned to the Navy amphibious force, serving in the South Pacific. While there, he earned one Silver Star and two Bronze stars. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was then called back to active duty during the Korean War and honorably discharged again in June of 1952. He also attended El Dorado Junior College.Earl worked at Ludowici Celadon Company for ten years as an estimator, the Cities Service Oil Company engineering department. In 1987, he retired from Farmland Industries Engineering Department after thirty years of service.Earl was a member of the Keystone Lodge #102 of Coffeyville, Scottish Rite of Fort Scott and Merza Temple of Pittsburg, American Legion Post #20, V.F.W Post #1022 and the First Christian Church of Coffeyville, where he served as a trustee, Deacon and chairman of many committees within the church.He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and woodworking.He is survived by two daughters, Deanna Sue Anderson of Ashville, North Carolina and Becky Lynne Medley of Coffeyville, Kansas, three step-children Gary Dee Evans of Elizabeth, Colorado, Warren Gene Evans of Brunswick, Georgia and Patty Shontz of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a dear friend and companion, Marva Lee Stephens of Coffeyville.Funeral services with be Friday February 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville, Kansas with Pastor Gordon Willhite officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery with Military rites presented by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20.Friends may call on Thursday, February 5, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home.Memorial contributions may be made to Coffeyville Friends of Animals, Coffeyville Community College or charity of their choice; contributions may be left at the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
