George H. Soles Jr., 91, of Speers, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015. A son of the late George H. Soles Sr. and Christina Cowell Soles, George was born in Charleroi on June 19, 1923. George spent most of his adult life in the Speers area and married Claire E. Vandermer on July 4, 1947. For approximately 15 years, he and Claire spent the winter months in Holiday, Fla. George served in the U.S. Army Airborne in World War II and later retired in 1981 from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. where he held the position as foreman. George was also a member of the Speers United Methodist Church and the Charleroi American Legion Post 22. Along with his wife Claire, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Katherine Soles of Fraser, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Debra Soles of Baldwin; a sister, Dolores Watkins of Souderton, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Christa (Andrew) Hlavsa of South Park, Jeffrey (Danielle) Soles Jr. of Monongahela, Sarah (John) Waller of Belle Vernon, Marlena Soles of Belle Vernon, William (Twila) Soles of Fraser, Colo., Elle Soles of Fraser, Colo., Jennifer (Matthew) Todaro of Canonsburg, and John (Sarah) Soles of Annandale, Va.; 12 great-grandchildren, and he has two great-grandchildren on the way. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Soles Sr. on Jan. 23, 2004; and two sisters, Betty Vandermer on May 2, 2012, and Scharma Schaeffer on Jan. 6, 2015. Friends will be received on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 724-929-5300, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, http://www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Speers United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lori Walters and Rev. Matthew Todaro co-officiating. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Speers United Methodist Church, 810 Jane Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022.
