Parents Ole Gulbrandson Skiftinghaugen (1803-1886) and Ragna Tomasdtr Herreid (1805-1885) both died in Ettrick

John O. Herreid died at the home of his son, Theodore Herreid, at Ettrick Saturday, May 14, 1921. Deceased was born in Hardanger, Norway, July 12, 1849. When 16 years of age he came to this country together with his parents and settled in North Beaver Creek. There were seven brothers and one sister in the family of which there is only one brother now living.

Mr. Herreid was one of the pioneer settlers in this locality, settling here when our now much developed country was a wilderness. He was a man of generous impulses and at all times appreciative of his neighbors and his friends.

He was united in marriage to Miss Christa Instenes and to this union were born 10 children, six of whom are now living.

They are:
1. John Levi Herried (1872-?) of Ettrick,
2. Albert Joseph Herried (1874-1956) of Cadott; married Olena Fossum
3. Cornelia Randina, Mrs. Martin Torkelson (1882-1953) of Madison;
4. Alida Christine, Mrs. G. Joseph Hallanger (1885-1972) of Missoula, MT
5. Theodore John (1888-1956) of Ettrick, later LaCrosse
6. Edwin Sanford Herried (1890-1982) of Chicago, later NJ, CA and

Married Mrs Margaret (Luttrell) Varnum-Herried
7. Wendell Varnum Herried of Black River Falls.
Married Effie Knudtson, son Warren H

Services were held at the Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon and the body was escorted from here to North Beaver Creek where the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place, Rev. Boe of Blair, officiating.
