Adelbert H. Whitney was a son of Dr. Caius Cassius Whitney (d. 1878) and his wife Abigail Hannah Leach (d. 1888), of Bolton Center, Quebec, Canada. Adelbert came to the United States sometime in the late 1880s or early 1890s. His mother had been born in Vermont, and some sources say his father had been, too, but others say he was born in Canada.

In 1892, he married Nellie Edith Brown (1872-before 1910), and they lived at Concord, New Hampshire. She evidently died young, and I don't believe there were any children born of the marriage, at least none thet grew up.

In 1910, A. H. Wihitney married Julia E. Sheehan (1880-aft. 1951). She was a daughter of James E. Sheehan (c. 1859-?) and his wife Ella A. Kelley (1857-1880), but had been raidsed by her grandparnets, Francis and Julia Kelley, after her mother's death when she was a baby.

A. H. and Julia Whitney lived at Lowell, Massachusetts from about 1915. An obituary pritned at the time of his death states that he was employed by the Boston-Maine Railroad for 43 years. A. H. and Julia had two sons, Giles L. Whitney (1911-1985, m. Irene McDowell) of Lowell, MA, and Adelbert Grant Whitney (1917-1996, m. Lillian DeArmon), of Charlotte, NC.

I am afraid I do not know when Julia died or where she and A. H. are buried. I will add more information when I find it. A. Grant Whitney's wife, Lillian DeArmon, was my cousin.
