Mrs. Sophia R. Madsen, widow of Bishop Lars P. Madsen, died suddenly of heart failure while visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Candland, Sunday night.
Mrs. Madsen was born in Mt. Pleasant, October 12, 1861, the daughter of Martin and Karen Marie Rasmussen. She was married to Lars P. Madsen, October 10, 1882. Bishop Madsen was killed when his wagon went off the Huntington dugway in 1903. Mrs. Madsen was an earnest church worker and was for many years treasurer of the North ward Relief Society.
She is survived by a son, William L. Madsen, city councilman of Mt. Pleasnat and four daughters, Mrs. O. V. Andersen and Mrs. Guy Candland of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. John Mower of Provo, and Mrs. Royal Ivory of Fountain Green. Surviving also are twenty grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters; President Daniel Rasmussen, L. C. Rasmussen, Erastus Rasmussen, of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Annie Kenner of Snowville, Wilford Rasmussen of Fairview and John Rasmussen of Roosevelt.
