Carol Jean Rowland went to be with the Lord at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.

Carol Jean was born in Schuyler County, Illinois on December 20, 1933, the daughter of Harold and Beulah Pickinpaugh Caldwell. She married Paul A. Rowland on May 24, 1952 in Macomb. He survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Paulette (Ric Smart) Wilson and Daphne (Mike) Thorman, both of Macomb and Penny (Jeff) Brown of Galesburg; one son, Douglas Rowland of Adair; 13 grandchildren, Scott and Olivia Wilson, Rachael Brunswig, Shana Wade, Nicholas Brown, Jessica, Brent, Lucas, Courtney and Ryan Thorman and Kristin, Devin and Sarah Rowland; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Spring of North Henderson and two sisters-in-law, Helen Koestner and Dorothy Caldwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Lewis, Ernest, Merle and Bradford Caldwell and one sister, Alleyne Bartlow.

Carol Jean graduated from Industry High School and was valedictorian. She attended Young’s School of Beauty and was a beautician in her home for 40 years and worked for the Illinois Department of Human Services for 11 years.

Carol Jean was a devoted mother and grandmother who took wonderful care of her family and loved little children even while she was at the Elms. Carol Jean cooked huge family dinners and at one time had 13 desserts because each grandchild had a favorite. Carol Jean enjoyed knitting, sewing, baking and reading her bible. She always looked for the best in everyone, always had a positive outlook and a listening ear for anyone.

Carol was a former member of the Littleton Baptist Church and attended the Doddsville Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Doddsville Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Burial will be in the Doddsville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Elms Nursing Home, Doddsville Methodist Church or Doddsville Cemetery.
