MAJ (Ret)Walter Donald "Don" Kinard, Sr., 77, of Columbus, GA, died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday February 6, 2015 at Edgewood Presbyterian Church with Reverend George Haugan officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA. Mr. Kinard was born June 17, 1937 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Walter T. Kinard and Ruby Whitten Kinard Allen. He retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years, having served two tours in Vietnam. Military decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star for Valor with four oak leaf clusters, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, ARCOM with oak leaf cluster, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Master Parachutist and Pathfinder. He served three tours as an instructor with the Airborne Department at Ft. Benning. He was employed at Columbus Mills as Industrial Relations Manager for 10 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member and Elder of Edgewood Presbyterian Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Alice Patricia "Pat" H. Kinard and a brother, Wayne Kinard. Survivors include his son, Walter Donald Kinard, Jr. of Johnson City, TN; daughter, Kristin Kinard Jain (Ash) of Columbus, GA; grandsons, Jonathan Kinard and Benjamin Kinard both of Salt Lake City, UT, sisters, Judy Allen Forrester (Ronnie) of Newport, TN, Joyce Allen Kirkpatrick (Alan) of Locust NC, and Barbara Allen Ortiz (Luis) of Flintstone, GA.
