Melvin L. Vaughn, 86, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 5, 2008. He was born April 22, 1921 in Pensacola, Florida and spent his youth in Barrineau Park, Florida. Mr. Vaughn graduated from Tate High School. He served in World War II as a Platoon Sergeant where he earned two bronze stars and a Merit of Honor and received an honorable discharge. In July 2005, he visited The National WWII memorial in Washington, D.C. with his brothers Rod and Luther Vaughn. While working for Webb Electric and Sunbelt Electric, he had the opportunity to travel around the country and see many wonderful things. He was a Life member of Barrineau Park Historical Society. He enjoyed being active by working in the yard, walking his dog, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Pamela McCook; and his sisters, Leslie Goranson and Emma Ruth Churchhill.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Mary "Jean" Vaughn; daughter, Deborah Ward (Robert); sons, Larry Vaughn, Speedy Vaughn (Karen), and Billy Vaughn (Debbie); grandchildren, Cameron Ward (Julie), Tara Freeman (Timmy), Shanon Willis (Shane), Justin Ward, Randal Vaughn (Minthea), Dylan Williams (Bess), Haley Vaughn, Mallory Vaughn, Kristin Vaughn, McKenzie Vaughn; 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Rod Vaughn and Luther Vaughn; his sisters, Mary Catherine Simpson and Betty Luth; and his best friend, Cinnamon.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with the Rev. Pam Avery officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
