Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Patrick E. Coleman, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass in the gathering space at the church. Burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Pat died January 31, 2015 at the home of his son, John, in Carl Junction, Mo.

Patrick Edward Coleman was born on August 28, 1922 in Linden, Indiana, a son of Edward Nicholas and Anna (Newkirk) Coleman. He graduated from Moline High School in 1940 and was accepted in the US Army Aviation Cadet Program in 1942. He earned his pilot wings and was commissioned as a 2nd LT in the Army Air Force in October 1943. After serving 2 years as a fighter pilot in WWII he returned to Moline to work for International Harvester. In 1947 he accepted a regular commission and began a 29 year career in the Air Force. Assignments included the Strategic Air Command (SAC), North American Air Defense Command (NORAD), CINCPAC Hqs in Honolulu, the 7th Air Force in Vietnam. After his retirement in 1971, he moved to Colorado Springs for 34 years before moving back to the Quad Cities in 2008.

He was united in marriage to Verlene A. Maholland on June 22, 1946 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2009. He later was united in marriage to Patricia (Bugos) Littig on October 22, 2011 at St. John Vianney, Bettendorf. She passed on November 6, 2013.

Pat was a member of St. John Vianney parish, the American Legion Post 26, and a life member of the Air Force Military Officers Association.

Pat is survived by his children and their spouses: Patrice and Ron Lara, Virginia/Colorado; Stephen and Andrea Coleman, Oakland, Calif.; David and Valerie Coleman, Honolulu, Hawaii; John and Brenda Coleman, Joplin, Mo.; a step-daughter, Kim McCool (Dean Krueger), Davenport; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by the loves of his life, Verlene and Patricia; a sister, Harriett Gagen, and a brother, Lawrence Coleman.
