Barbara Nell Elkins, 80, of North Liberty, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at 8:30 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at Hospice House. She was born in Mishawaka, IN to Alvia and Wilmetta Zent on March 13, 1934.
Barbara is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, John Elkins of North Liberty; brother, William Zent of North Liberty, IN; daughter, Alyssa (Vaughn) Balsley of North Liberty, IN; son, Bryan (Celeste) Elkins of LaPorte, IN; three grandchildren, Ashley (Cristain) Negrete of LaPorte, IN, Heather Elkins of Michigan City, IN and Connor Balsley of North Liberty, IN and two great grandchildren, Natalie Negrete and Levi Elkins of LaPorte, IN. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert (Jan) Gordon of North Liberty, IN, Cristy Zent of North Liberty, IN, Vicky Jansen of AZ, Aaron Zent of CA, Karen (Todd) Burch of Walkerton, IN and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ralph Zent; sister, Jane Gordon and nephew, Chuck Gordon.
Barbara was a quiet person who enjoyed reading, collecting angels, watching football and especially spending time with her grandchildren who she was very devoted to and would do anything for them. They were the light of her life.
Barbara will be greatly missed and will be in our hearts forever. I know she will be watching over us as she always did but now as our guardian angel. A special thank you goes out to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care for the phenomenal care and support given to our family which will never be forgotten, Miller's Merry Manor of Walkerton for the wonderful care she received while there and to her physician Dr. Rafat Ansari and staff.
Barbara will be cremated per her request. There will be a gathering for friends and family to celebrate her life from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St. North Liberty, IN.
