Aubrey Vanleson “Van” Miller, 86, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, in Lubbock. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Texas Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Arrangements are by Sanders Funeral Home.
He was born March 15, 1928, in Callisburg to James Andrew Miller and Mida Leona Fox Miller. He married Verna June Taylor on Aug. 2, 1949, in Lordsburg, N.M. He served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic. He served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and two tours during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he worked as a mechanic for Van Wyk Volkswagen in Tucson, Arizona. He returned to Callisburg in 1978 and worked for Weber Aircraft in Gainesville where he retired in 1993. He moved to Lefors in 2004 where he resided until entering a nursing home in July 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Granville Miller, J.O. Miller and Earl Miller; and two daughters, Mary Ellen Miller and Carol Willis.
Survivors include his wife, Verna of Lubbock/Lefors; 4 sons, Robert Miller; William Miller; Ronald Miller of Lefors; Ken Miller, and wife, Beth, of Lubbock/Lefors; 6 grandchildren, Jimmy Miller; Becky Young of Gainesville; Nicholas Miller, and wife, Ashley, of Lefors; Brittanie Glass of Thackerville, Okla.; Valerie Cossio, and husband, Jeremy, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Gabriel Miller of College Station; and 7 great-grandchildren.
