Ellen Marie Allen Hofer, 93, of Milford passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Heritage Health in Hoopeston. Ellen was born September 5, 1921 to Roy and Myrtle Gothberg Allen. She was baptized at the Goodwine Methodist church on April 13, 1934. She married Harold Hofer on June 1, 1946 at her family home in Goodwine and he went to be with his Lord on September 3, 1993. On May 25, 1948 they were blessed with a son, Lloyd Lester, who went to be with his Lord on September 24, 1975. Their daughter Connie joined the family on July 18, 1952 and she survives.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie Hofer of Hopewell, NJ; two grandchildren, Jenna (Jason) Bloom and Jared Casper both of Hopewell, NJ; two great-grandchildren, Lydia and Sadie Bloom; one brother, Charles (Alta Jean) Allen of Cissna Park; three sisters-in-law, Lela Hofer of Watseka, Waunita Allen of Hoopeston, and Lucille Allen of Milford; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward Allen and Lloyd Allen; and two sisters, Florine Breeding and Geraldine Boyden.

Mrs. Hofer was the oldest member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Milford being confirmed on April 27, 1947 by Rev. Paul Meyer and had served her Lord in many capacities during her 67 years. An active farmer with her husband for 43 years, she served as secretary of the Iroquois County Fair in the 40’s and was a cafeteria cook at Milford High School in the late 60’s-early 70’s. She was owner of Hofer’s Drive-In in Milford and had been a co-owner of Winter Haven Village in Pharr Texas. Ellen was very creative in many areas and enjoyed ceramics, oil painting, sewing, knitting and made over 25 beautiful quilts. She was truly a people’s person and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Being Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the greatest joy of her later years.

The family requests for the celebration of Ellen’s life that you honor her by wearing her favorite color red in some form when you come to say good-bye. It will remind us all of her generous spirit and the joy and love she brought to our lives.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Milford. Rev. Karl Gibbs will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Milford.

Memorials may be made to the radio ministry at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
