Paul, as he was most commonly known was the son of William Erastus Angel and Sonora Jane "Jennie" (Cooper) Angel.

Following the divorce of his parents, his mother moved the family into the home of her parents, William F. Cooper and Eliza Frances (Wiggins) Cooper, at the well known "Cooper House" in Bryson City. His mother would become the manager.

According to 1932 Bryson City Times newspaper articles, "Petey" was quite an athlete, along with the likes of Commodore "Commy" Casada (pitcher), “Pop” Elliott, the brains of the local club and others, of the newly-formed Ocona-Nantahala baseball league. *provided by Don Casada, who shared newspaper articles.

Paul married Susie Ann Mashburn, daughter of William Gurley Mashburn and Minnie Henrietta (Reece) Mashburn, following the 1930 Swain County Census.

Two children would be born to this union: William Cooper "Billy" Angel (1934-1974) and Richard D. "Dickey" Angel.

In 1940, Paul and his family were living in the home with his mother, Jennie. He was now head of house and was the operator of a cafe.

He was prevented from being drafted in WWII, as he had lost the index finger on his left hand at the second joint. He stood 5' 7 1/2" tall, 160-lbs, dark complexion, brown hair, and brown eyes.

In 1956, Paul and his family would move to Asheville where he would take employment in the furniture industry at R & E Gordon Furniture. Susie would become employed as a cashier at Gibson's Launderette. Susie's parents were also living in Buncombe County in nearby Candler.

Paul's mother, Jennie would die at Swain County Hospital on 20 Oct 1963 as the result of a coronary occlusion.

Tragedy would soon strike again, when Paul's wife, Susie would die at home on 08 Feb 1966 as the result of a coronary occlusion.

Later, Paul would move to Graham County, NC where his son, William Cooper "Billy" Angel lived. By trade, Paul was a machine operator in the furniture industry.

Paul's life would come to an end at Swain County Hospital as the result of cardiac arrest, compounded by chronic alcoholism. His son, Richard was the informant on his death certificate.

He would be interred along with with his wife, Susie on 11 Nov 1988.

He was 81-years of age.
