He was born June 22, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Edward and Amelia (Dunham) Patterson. He married Rosemary (Brown) Patterson on May 6, 1949, and she preceded him in death March 6, 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Calvin S. (wife, Clair) Patterson Jr. of Cincinnati and Pastor Ronald (wife, Sue) Patterson of West Virginia; daughter, Judith Ann Jeffers of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren, Christopher Patterson, Alicia Brocker, Christina Foster, Nichole Cooper, Tiffany Behne, Jessica Bermudez and Candice Patterson; and seven great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his best friend, Arnold Fykes of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse; and six brothers and sisters.
Mr. Patterson had lived in this area for 10 years after moving from Cincinnati. He had worked for General Electric of Cincinnati in sheet metal maintenance for 38 years before retiring in 1983.
He served in the U.S Army, Navy and Air Force.
He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Murat Shrine of Cincinnati.
Calvin loved collecting guns and watches. He enjoyed photography and attending church and church functions.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road in Shelbyville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor Fred Troxell officiating. A military memorial service will follow the funeral service. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery in Madison.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana in care of the funeral home.
